street pigeons

Urban sidewalk fowl

Street pigeons are the common gray pigeons found in cities worldwide, descendants of domesticated rock doves that reverted to wild living.

They congregate in parks, plazas, and sidewalks, scavenging food scraps and nesting on building ledges.

Often called city pigeons or simply pigeons, they're ubiquitous urban wildlife—beloved by some who feed them, reviled by others as pests.
