straw buyer
Secret transaction intermediary
A straw buyer is someone who purchases something on behalf of another person who cannot or should not make the purchase themselves.
The term appears most often in real estate and firearms transactions, where the actual buyer may be legally disqualified or trying to hide their involvement: The gang used straw buyers to acquire weapons.
Straw purchases are typically illegal when used to circumvent regulations.
