storm petrels
Small sea birds
Storm petrels are small seabirds that flutter low over ocean waves, appearing to walk on water.
The name comes from Saint Peter, who walked on the Sea of Galilee.
Sailors considered them omens of approaching storms, since they often appear before rough weather.
They spend most of their lives at sea, coming ashore only to breed.
