Spread bets are wagers on whether an outcome will fall above or below a quoted range, rather than on a simple win or loss.
In sports betting, the spread is a handicap: The Eagles are favored by seven points, so they need to win by more than that to cover the spread.
In financial spread betting, you bet on whether a price will rise or fall, with profits or losses proportional to how far the market moves.
The spread refers to the gap between the buy and sell prices quoted by the bookmaker.
