spindle poison
Cell division saboteur
A spindle poison is a substance that disrupts the spindle fibers cells use during division, preventing chromosomes from separating properly.
These compounds—including colchicine and certain chemotherapy drugs—either block spindle formation or prevent its breakdown, halting cell division.
Cancer treatments exploit this mechanism since rapidly dividing tumor cells are especially vulnerable.
