Designated tobacco area
A smoking section is a designated area where smoking is permitted, typically in restaurants, airports, or other public spaces.
The term belongs mostly to the late 20th century, when establishments began separating smokers from nonsmokers: Would you like smoking or non-smoking?
As indoor smoking bans spread, smoking sections have largely disappeared from American life.
