Just one thickness
Single ply describes material made of one layer, as opposed to multiple layers bonded together.
The term appears most often with toilet paper and facial tissue, where single ply is thinner and less absorbent than double or triple ply: The office bathroom only stocks single ply.
In roofing, single-ply membranes are flexible sheets applied in one layer.
