sherry cask
Jerez wine container
A sherry cask is an oak barrel previously used to age sherry, now prized in whisky production for the rich flavors it imparts—dried fruit, nuts, spice, and deep color.
Scotch aged in sherry casks commands premium prices: a twelve-year-old finished in Oloroso sherry casks.
The casks themselves are expensive and increasingly scarce.
