serpentine belts
Under-hood bands
A serpentine belt is a single continuous belt that drives multiple engine accessories—alternator, power steering pump, air conditioning compressor, water pump—by winding through their pulleys in a snake-like path.
Before serpentine belts became standard in the 1980s, engines used multiple V-belts for these components.
