selective focus
Sharpness in foreground
Selective focus is a photographic technique where only part of the image is sharp while the rest blurs into soft obscurity.
The photographer chooses what the viewer should notice—a face emerging from a hazy crowd, a single flower against an indistinct garden.
The technique directs attention by controlling depth of field: The selective focus draws your eye straight to the ring on her finger.
