secret recipes
Closely held instructions
Secret recipes are formulas or preparation methods deliberately kept confidential, typically to maintain commercial advantage or family tradition.
The secrecy often becomes part of the appeal: KFC's secret recipe of eleven herbs and spices, Grandma's secret recipe for apple pie.
The term sometimes appears ironically, since the "secret" ingredients are often guessable or unremarkable.
