scolex
Worm attachment organ
The scolex is the head of a tapeworm, equipped with suckers and often hooks that attach to the intestinal wall of a host.
Though tiny compared to the segmented body that trails behind it, the scolex is essential—if it remains attached after treatment, the worm can regenerate.
Plural: scolices or scoleces.
