robotic speech

Flat synthetic talking

Robotic speech describes a way of talking that sounds mechanical, monotone, or unnaturally stilted—lacking the rhythm, inflection, and warmth of natural human conversation.

The term applies both to actual computer-generated voices and to people who speak in flat, emotionless cadences: His robotic speech made it hard to tell if he was joking.

It often suggests someone reading from a script or suppressing genuine feeling.
