retina exam
Back-of-eye inspection
A retina exam is a medical examination of the retina—the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye.
An eye doctor dilates the pupils with drops, then uses specialized instruments to check for damage, disease, or abnormalities: The retina exam showed early signs of macular degeneration.
Also called a dilated eye exam or fundoscopy.
