readopt

Embrace once more

To readopt is to adopt again—taking back something previously abandoned or resuming a practice that was discontinued.

A country might readopt a former currency, or someone might readopt habits they had given up: After years of meat-eating, she readopted a vegetarian diet.

The word applies equally to policies, customs, beliefs, or children previously given up for adoption.
