quick set

Hedge of thorns

Quick set describes materials—especially cement, concrete, or adhesive—formulated to harden rapidly: Use quick-set mortar for jobs that can't wait.

The term also applies to hedges grown from cuttings planted directly in the ground rather than transplanted, particularly hawthorn.

As a verb, to quick-set is to plant such cuttings.

Also spelled quickset.
