putting to shame

Making look foolish

Putting to shame means making someone or something look inadequate by comparison, or causing someone to feel ashamed.

A performance can put others to shame by being vastly superior: Her presentation put the rest of ours to shame.

Someone can also be put to shame by having their failings exposed: The investigation put the whole department to shame.
