public galleries
Open exhibition halls
Public galleries are spaces in legislative chambers, courtrooms, or other official proceedings where members of the public may sit and observe: The public galleries were packed for the verdict.
Distinguished from press galleries or other reserved seating, they embody the principle that government business should be conducted openly.
To clear the galleries is to remove spectators, usually due to disruption or security concerns.
