Cop's patrol wheels
A prowl car is a police patrol car, especially one cruising through neighborhoods watching for criminal activity.
The term evokes the slow, watchful movement of an officer on the hunt.
It was common in mid-20th-century American English but has largely given way to squad car or patrol car: The prowl car turned down the alley, its spotlight sweeping the doorways.
