protective parent
Sheltering mom or dad
A protective parent shields their children from harm, whether physical danger, emotional distress, or negative influences.
The term is neutral when describing reasonable vigilance but can carry judgment when the protection seems excessive: She's a protective parent who won't let the kids walk to school alone.
In custody disputes, protective parent sometimes describes a parent who restricts contact with the other parent, claiming to shield children from abuse or neglect—a framing that may be contested.
