protagonism

Central role seeking

Protagonism is the quality or condition of being a protagonist—the central figure in a narrative or situation.

The term often carries connotations of someone positioning themselves as the main character in contexts where such centrality may not be warranted: His protagonism in every group project irritated his colleagues.

In some contexts, it describes advocacy or championship of a cause.
