progressive relaxation
Gradual tension melting
Progressive relaxation is a technique for reducing physical tension by systematically tensing and then releasing muscle groups throughout the body.
You might start with your feet, clench them for several seconds, then let go completely before moving to your calves, thighs, and upward.
The contrast between tension and release helps you recognize and eliminate stress held in the body: My therapist taught me progressive relaxation for my anxiety.
