principal boy
Trouser role star
The principal boy is the young male hero in a British pantomime—a theatrical form traditionally staged around Christmas.
The role is conventionally played by a woman, usually in tights that show off her legs: She landed the role of principal boy in this year's production of Peter Pan.
The tradition dates to Victorian era and continues today, though men sometimes now take these parts.
