prehension
Act of seizing
Prehension is the act of grasping or seizing, whether physically or mentally.
In anatomy and zoology, it describes how organisms grip things: The monkey's tail is adapted for prehension.
In philosophy, particularly Whitehead's process thought, prehension refers to how entities perceive and incorporate aspects of other entities into their experience.
The adjective prehensile describes body parts capable of grasping.
