powwowing

Meeting to discuss

Powwowing has two distinct meanings.

The original refers to Native American ceremonial gatherings involving dancing, singing, and spiritual practices—now often cultural celebrations open to the public: We attended the powwow on the reservation.

The word extended to mean any meeting or conference, especially for discussion: The team had a quick powwow before the presentation.

Separately, powwowing names a folk healing tradition among Pennsylvania Dutch communities, involving prayer, charms, and laying on of hands.
