Plexiglass barriers are transparent panels made of acrylic plastic, used to separate spaces while maintaining visibility.
They became ubiquitous during the COVID-19 pandemic, installed at checkout counters, reception desks, and between restaurant tables to reduce disease transmission: The cashier spoke through a gap in the plexiglass barrier.
