pink moons

A pink moon is the full moon of April, named not for its color but for pink wildflowers (phlox) that bloom in early spring.

The term comes from Native American and colonial American tradition of naming each month's full moon.

Despite the name, the moon appears its usual pale color—though any full moon near the horizon may take on warm hues from atmospheric filtering.
