peacock display
Showy tail spread
A peacock display is the male peafowl's dramatic fanning of iridescent tail feathers to attract mates—one of nature's most spectacular courtship rituals.
By extension, any showy exhibition meant to impress: His sports car was pure peacock display.
The term usually implies vanity or excessive self-promotion, prioritizing appearance over substance.
