pavement artist
Curbside chalk illustrator
A pavement artist creates pictures on sidewalks or streets using chalk or pastels, typically for tips from passersby.
The term is mainly British, where pavement means sidewalk.
In older slang, a pavement artist was someone who loitered or worked the streets—a prostitute or petty criminal who knew every crack in the concrete.
