participation medals
Awards for showing
Participation medals are awards given to everyone who takes part in an activity, regardless of achievement or performance.
Common in youth sports and school events, they recognize involvement rather than victory.
The term often carries dismissive connotations, suggesting excessive coddling or the decline of competitive standards: Back in my day, we didn't get participation medals just for showing up.
