partial loss
Not total destruction
Partial loss is damage or destruction that affects only part of something, leaving it diminished but not entirely gone.
The term appears most often in insurance contexts, where a partial loss means the insured property is damaged but not beyond repair or total value: The adjuster classified the water damage as a partial loss.
