A parallel reality is a hypothetical universe existing alongside our own, often with different outcomes or physical laws.
The concept appears in physics (multiverse theory) and fiction, where characters might encounter alternate versions of themselves.
More loosely, people living in a parallel reality hold beliefs so divergent from consensus that communication becomes difficult: We're not even arguing anymore—he's in a parallel reality.
