overdarkened
Excessively made murky
Overdarkened describes something that has been made too dark, whether through excessive shadow, poor lighting adjustment, or heavy-handed editing.
The term appears most often in photography and image processing: The overdarkened photo lost all detail in the shadows.
It can also describe physical spaces or artistic choices that have crossed from moody into murky.
