Left steeping long
Overbrewed describes tea, coffee, or beer that has steeped or fermented too long, resulting in bitter, harsh, or otherwise undesirable flavors.
Tea left in hot water past its ideal time becomes overbrewed and tannic: The overbrewed tea was so bitter I couldn't drink it.
The term applies literally to beverages and occasionally figuratively to anything left to develop past its optimal point.
