outdoor skating
Ice arena alternative
Outdoor skating is ice skating done on natural or artificial surfaces in the open air rather than in an enclosed rink—frozen ponds, flooded parks, or outdoor rinks maintained in winter.
The term emphasizes the setting: cold air, natural light, and often a more casual atmosphere than indoor skating venues.
The city opens its outdoor skating rink every December.
