Out-baskets are trays or containers on a desk for documents that have been processed and are ready to leave—mail to send, memos to distribute, reports to file elsewhere.
The term pairs with in-basket, forming the classic office system for managing paper flow: She dropped the signed contracts in her out-basket.
Now largely metaphorical or nostalgic as offices go paperless.
