ornate frames
Fancy picture surrounds
Ornate frames are decorative borders, typically for pictures or mirrors, featuring elaborate carved, gilded, or sculpted details.
The phrase evokes Victorian or Baroque aesthetics—heavy gold leaf, scrollwork, floral motifs: The museum displayed Old Masters in their original ornate frames.
The term sometimes appears metaphorically for overwrought presentation: He wrapped a simple idea in ornate frames of jargon.
