open out

Expand and reveal

Open out means to spread or unfold something that was closed or compact: She opened out the map on the table.

It also describes spaces becoming wider or less confined: The narrow path opened out into a meadow.

Figuratively, a person who opens out becomes more communicative or relaxed: After a few drinks, he really opened out.
