official scorer

Records game statistics

An official scorer is a person designated to make judgment calls about how plays should be recorded in a sport's statistics—most commonly in baseball, where they determine whether a batter reached base on a hit or an error, whether a pitcher earned a run, and similar rulings that affect players' statistical records.

The official scorer ruled it an error on the shortstop.
