nontraditional families
Unconventional home structures
Nontraditional families are household arrangements that differ from the conventional model of two married heterosexual parents with their biological children.
The term encompasses single-parent households, blended families, same-sex parents, multigenerational homes, unmarried partners raising children, and other configurations: Many schools now recognize that nontraditional families are the norm rather than the exception.
What counts as "traditional" shifts with time and culture, making the term somewhat relative.
