network neutrality

Equal bandwidth principle

Network neutrality is the principle that internet service providers should treat all online content equally, without blocking, slowing, or charging differently based on website, platform, or type of traffic.

Proponents argue it preserves an open internet; opponents say it limits business flexibility.

Also called net neutrality.

The debate over network neutrality intensified after the FCC reversed Obama-era regulations.
