negative reps
Lowering-phase-only exercise
Negative reps are a weightlifting technique focusing on the eccentric (lowering) phase of an exercise rather than the lifting phase.
A spotter helps raise the weight, then the lifter controls its slow descent: I finished with negative reps on the bench press.
The method builds strength by emphasizing muscle lengthening under tension, allowing lifters to work with heavier weights than they could lift unassisted.
