natural border
Mountain range division
A natural border is a geographic feature—river, mountain range, ocean, desert—that forms a boundary between territories.
Unlike political borders drawn on maps, natural borders follow terrain: The Pyrenees form a natural border between France and Spain.
The term implies the boundary exists independently of human decision, though "natural" borders are often chosen and contested like any other.
