mud stain

Soil on fabric

A mud stain is a discoloration left by dried mud on fabric, carpet, or other surfaces.

Mud stains are notoriously stubborn because they combine soil particles with organic matter.

The standard advice is to let mud dry completely before brushing off the excess: Don't rub a wet mud stain—you'll just spread it deeper into the fibers.
