moon moth
Night-flying silk insect
Moon moths are large, pale-colored moths distinguished by their long tail-like hindwing extensions and often luminous green or white coloring.
The name refers to several species, most notably the luna moth of North America.
They are nocturnal, short-lived as adults, and prized for their ethereal beauty: A moon moth landed on the porch light.
