monsoon flood

Rainy season overflow

A monsoon flood is flooding caused by the intense seasonal rains that characterize monsoon climates, particularly in South and Southeast Asia.

These floods occur predictably each year during the wet season, when rivers overflow and low-lying areas become inundated: Monsoon floods displaced thousands from their homes in Bangladesh.

The term distinguishes this cyclical flooding from flash floods or storm surges.
