moderate Republican
Middle-ground GOP member
A moderate Republican is a member of the U.S.
Republican Party whose views fall closer to the political center than the party's conservative base.
Moderate Republicans typically support some traditionally Democratic positions—on social issues, environmental regulation, or bipartisan compromise—while maintaining conservative stances on fiscal policy or defense.
The term can be descriptive or dismissive, depending on who's using it: She's one of the few moderate Republicans left in the Senate.
