missing out

Losing an opportunity

Missing out is failing to experience or take advantage of something worthwhile.

The phrase implies loss or regret—you're absent from something good: I skipped the party and totally missed out.

Often followed by "on": You're missing out on a great opportunity.

Fear of missing out, abbreviated FOMO, describes anxiety about being excluded from rewarding experiences.
