misfield
Drop the ball
To misfield is to handle a batted or thrown ball clumsily in cricket or baseball—fumbling a catch, bobbling a grounder, or failing to stop a ball cleanly: The shortstop misfielded the routine grounder, allowing the runner to reach second.
A misfield is an instance of such an error.
