miserableness

State of despair

Miserableness is the state of being miserable—deeply unhappy, uncomfortable, or wretched.

The word covers both the quality of causing misery and the condition of experiencing it: the sheer miserableness of the weather, I couldn't shake the miserableness that settled over me.

Wretchedness or misery are more common choices.
